Erin Mills Town Centre would like to hon our her at the second annual Pinnacle Awards for Business W omen of Distinction -- the only program of its kind to recognize women in business in Halton and Peel Regions. `T o celebrate 10 years o f growth and recent revitalization, Erin Mills plans to recognize the women who help m ake the H alton and Peel Regions a vibrant and active business com m unity," says Lynn D ow ling, marketing director, Erin Mills Town Centre. `T h e Pinnacle Awards is an opportunity for friends and colleagues to nominate a deserving member of the community." An award will be presented in each of the following five categories: Most Successful Start-Up; Education, Training and D evelopm ent; Innovation; C om m unity and Volunteer Contribution; and Global Competitiveness. Employees and res idents of the Halton and Peel Regions are encouraged to nominate success ful business women in their communi ties. Judges from business, govern ment, and community organizations within the Halton and Peel Regions will select winners in each category. Nomination forms for the Pinnacle Awards will be accepted until Mon., July 31st, along with a biography and two-page description of the candi dates' qualifications. Two thousand businesses and com munity centres in the Halton and Peel Regions have received nomination packages including posters, brochures and nomination forms. Additional nomination forms will be distributed upon request by calling 416-924-4442, Ext. 221. The awards ceremony will take place at Erin Mills Town Centre on Thurs., Sept. 14th. To go from a home office to a nation wide network of employees in just three short years is a remarkable achievement in any business. In this case, the home-grown success story belongs to Byk Canada Inc. of Oakville, the Canadian division of German-based Byk Gulden Pharmaceutical Group. Having recently completed an expan sion of its offices on North Service Road, Byk Canada now employs 50 people at its Oakville headquarters in addition to a sales force of 120 across Canada. At its inception in January of 1997, Byk Canada consisted of a grand total of three employees working out of the St. Catharines' home of company president and CEO John Suk. Speaking at the recent opening of its newly expanded offices, Suk noted that the expansion was "not only a sign of our rapid growth, but is another step towards our goal of becoming one of Canada's leading pharmaceutical com panies". Although Byk is a relatively new player in the Canadian pharmaceutical industry, its parent company, the Byk Gulden Group, has had successful worldwide operations for over 120 years. Byk's primary focus is in three areas: gastroenterology, respirology and criti cal care. Among its key products are Pantoloc , a proton pump inhibitor used for the treatment of peptic ulcers-a con dition that can effect almost 20 percent of people below the age of 40 and 50 percent o f those 60 and over. Today, Pantoloc is one of the fastest growing prescription products in Canada.
