Wednesday September 6, 2000 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER A9 C O M M EN T T o u g h e s t te s t in g o lf c a re e r a w a itin g T ig e r W o o d s Tiger, where are you? I truly believe the world, at least the world as it exists here in Oakville this week, can be divided into two types of people: those who know what a below par shot is and those who don't. But everyone, even non-golfers like myself, know the name Tiger Woods. Organizers to this week's Canadian Open in Oakville are all talking about the phenomenon that is Tiger Woods, even, amazingly, among non-golfers. Everyone's scrambling to get tick ets. You may think bogey is an old film star, but bets are on you want a ticket to see Tiger Woods in action. And we all know the man loves a challenge. In fact, it seems he can't get enough of them. He's already met a lot of them in the four short years he's been a pro: he's No. 1 on the earnings list and he's wowed just about everyone in the 86 PGA events he's played in. Fact is, it's like listening to the hockey commen tators when Gretzky began piling up the stats years ago - they begin to run out of superlatives as these great ath letes begin to run out of challenges. So, really what's left? I figure there's only one thing that would truly stump this gifted athlete: me with a golf club in my hand. If ever you've seen me try to hit the ball, much less put it anywhere near a hole, you'll know this could very well be the worst - and most difficult - chal the cottage of all places, but it's pret Tiger makes it look, anyway. hear.
