D L n v l i Hors-d'oeuvres, art and autom obiles Oakville Galleries and Erin Park Lexus Toyota will celebrate the success of Oakville Galleries' summer exhi bitions and the Lexus line of luxury vehicles at a private showing on Friday, Sept. 15th from 7 to 10 p.m. at Oakville Galleries in Gairloch Gardens. The public can view the latest in Lexus luxury, includ ing the new 2001 Lexus IS 300 sedan, the RX 300 and LX 470 sport utility vehicles and thQ ES 300 and GS 400 sports sedans. This is the fifth year that Erin Park Lexus Toyota, located on the border of Mississauga and Oakville, has showcased its line-up of automotive excellence in scenic Gairloch Gardens. Over 250 guests are expected for this public event, which is free of charge and features gourmet hors-d'oeu vres by Catered Fare. Parking will be available in Gairloch Gardens, on the west side of Caimcroft Road (directly north of Gairloch Gardens), and on the south side of Cambridge Drive (one block north on Caimcroft Road) from 7 to 11 p.m. Shuttle service is available to the gallery. The ArtWorks program has returned to O'Connor MacLeod with the award-winning landscape watercolours of Fred Mitchell and the landscape photographs of Michael Jacobs. Mitchell has built a loyal following with his simple, honest watercolours that blend subtle colours. The Oakville engineer and college teacher has developed his life-long interest in visu al arts by attended drawing and watercolour classes at Sheridan College and the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga. Jacobs is always trying to turn an ordinary scene into an extraordinary picture through the use of light. In this exhibition he has used his camera to turn everyday local scenes into mag ical reflections. During her year as a fiddler, Kathleen says she has placed every time but once when she has competed. And that one time, she had to borrow someone else's violin. "It was too big for me," explains the Grade 6 St. Marguerite d'Youville student. Laura Fung, 18, competed in the Novice dance category at last Saturday's feis. The young woman only started tak ing Irish dance lessons a couple of years ago. However, the former ballet student has progressed to assistant instructor, helping to teach children three or four years younger than those in her own dancing class. "I saw Riverdance on TV and found out a lot of infor mation about it on the Internet, and it sounded like some thing I'd really enjoy. So I decided to try it," she says, explaining her sudden interest in Irish dancing and adding that she only competed in solos at the Oakville Feis.
