Wednesday, September 20, 2000 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER C5 Quality shots the difference in Extreme loss Shot quality turned out to be the major differ ence as the Oakville Extreme lost their Ontario Cup U-18 girls soccer final 3-1 to Pickering. The game was fairly even throughout, with the momentum swinging back and forth like a pendulum. Both teams controlled the ball well and attacked persistently, but it was the Pickering Power who managed to get the choice shots. Pickering built up a 2-0 lead, which Oakville reduced to 2-1 at the break on a goal by Annie Sylvestri. The Extreme came out strong in the second half, spending a lot of time in the offensive zone, but Pickering managed to turn the momentum around and then add an insurance goal. (See adjacent photo). Lightning have to settle for Ontario Cup finalists The Oakville Lightning U16 boys rep soccer team had to be content with second best Sunday as they were clearly outplayed in their Ontario Cup provincial soccer cham pi onship, losing 4-0 to North York Azzurri. Azzurri led 2-0 at the half. O akville had their best chance to get back in the game early in the second half but Mark Misiak, on a breakaway, was robbed by the goaltender who made a great recovery after it looked like he was beat. About mid-way into the sec ond half Azzurri scored their third goal, and by this point the game was out o f reach for Oakville. OAKVILLE (S )H O N D A HR 1 9 1 W YECR0FTRD. O ntario Cup champs Through 90 minutes o f play, nei ther the O akville B lades nor the Sudbury Panhellenic were able to put the ball in the net in a closely matched U-17 boys tier two Ontario Cup final. In an intense gam e, O akville's Craig M cAuley was ejected in the 69th minute, leaving Oakville a man short for the remainder o f the game. With no score at the end of regulation time, the game went into extra time where O akville's G raham Belovay scored the Golden Goal at the fiveminute mark to give the Oakville Blades the 1-0 victory.
