Description
Women's Institutes were not only organized to give a political voice to rural women in the early 20th century, they provided assistance to neighbours, friendship and social times, as well as opportunities to learn and discuss events or politics or an educational topic. They continue today.

Mrs. Henderson's copy of the pamphlet Programme of the Palermo W.I. for 1948-1949 tells us the names of the Palermo area women, their social activities and interests. We can easily imagine these women rushing to a meeting bringing a plate of home-made treats, ready to report to the group, ready to laugh and talk with family and friends for a few hours.
