The rich, garden-friendly compost is pro duced through Halton' s Yard Waste Program, according to a memo to Halton Regional Council. Compost will be available from 8 a.m. until 4 :3 0 p.m., Monday to Saturday, and 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Sunday. Residents can take up to seven garbage bags (or equivalent) of compost per household. Proof of residence is not required for the compost, although Halton staff will ask resi dents which municipality they are from. During the giveaway program, the Region will provide general information on backyard composting, Halton' s GreenCart Program, as well as paper yard waste bags and stickers. Compost will also be given away at HWMS on Sunday, Sept. 16, from 8 a.m. until noon. In return for the compost, Halton residents can make a non-perishable food or monetary donation to any of the food banks operating in Halton.
