The event, w hich will be held 7 p.m.-1 a.m., includes entertainment and dancing. Seven Four Pillars awards (education, cul ture, com m unity and harmony) w ill be presented to recipients. Sonia Collymore, a two-time Juno Award w inning artist, will be doing a live perfor mance of her unique sound supported by a bold stage presence. Over the years, she has developed a strong jazz, soul and rhythm and blues vocal style. Her music is soulful with a Caribbean twist. The CCAH com m unity steel pan perfor mers Rhythms of the Caribbean will be greeting patrons with Caribbean tunes show casing the unique art form of steel pan mu sic. This year, in keeping w ith the organiza tion' s theme -- serving our com m unity -- CCAH will be donating part of the proceeds from the gala to Oakville' s new hospital. CCAH has given $25,000 to support the purchase of vital equipment and furnish ings for a maternity room in the new facility and are proud to have the CCAH name on a room. Tickets are $60 per person and the m enu includes: Mediterranean roasted chicken; roast beef; roasted potatoes; tossed garden salad; seasonal m ixed vegetables; penne pas ta in tomato basil; rolls and butter; dessert; tea and coffee. Come From Away was hrst conceived by Michael Rubinoff, a theatre pro ducer w ho launched the CMTP at Sheridan in 2011. Rubinoff, w ho is also Associate Dean, Visual and Performing Arts at Sheridan, approached Irene Sankoff and David Hein with the challenge of writing a musical about the self less humanity and compassion show n by the people of Gander and hve surrounding towns in welcom ing 7,000 stranded passengers on 9/11. He committed their work w ould be among the hrst to be in cubated by the CMTP and in 2012, the duo' s script was brought to life by students in the Music Theatre Performance program, culminating in a 45-m inute staged reading of the show. "Only hve Canadian musicals have made it to Broadway. It is very special that our students played a signihcant role in launching one of these m usicals," says Rubinoff.
