The Conseil scolaire de district catholique Centre-Sud (CSDCCS) was renamed Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir (which means My Future in English). The Oakville high school, located at 2600 Grand Oak Trail, saw its students and staff join in as more than 16,500 students and 3,000 staff members board-wide in the French school board took part in simultaneous events to unveil the board' s new name. It has schools across southern Ontario and operates Ecole elementaire catholique SainteMarie, as well as Sainte-Trinite, in Oakville. Ecole secondaire catholique Sainte-Trinite was part of the announcement and held its own ceremony with dignitaries and parents to cel ebrate the board' s new identity. Sainte-Trinite Principal Rachel Caron took to the stage while the students waited for the un veiling of the new school board name. Christine Lachapelle, directrice du service de la programmation, and Nicolas Haddad, emcee, told the audience about the new board name. Students Naomi Masia Ghalia El Hayawan and Andrea Kabuya then went on stage, sur rounding themselves in borders with the new board name and Sarah-Eve Blaquiere handed out T-Shirts with MonAvenir on them. The name change was adopted by a board resolution on April 26 and will be presented to with parents, students, staff and the community The board noted three recurring themes were generated from comments -- modernity, the firm promise of an ambitious future for students and a high level of future achievement. MonAvenir offers students quality learning spaces and opportunities, allowing them to de velop the skills required for the future. "Today the Conseil scolaire catholique Mo nAvenir asserts loud and clear its commitment to excellence and to ensuring that students have everything they need to succeed and flourish," said Melinda Chartrand, board chair. "Our school board supports the aspirations of the French-speaking Catholic community and today we reaffirm our promise to pursue that mission in light of the hopes of our students." Essential to the name, the MonAvenir logo features a silhouette of a youth taking off and be ing carried away and guided by a star made up of various symbols, the media release said. It also explained, "The large star represents the calling of each student to reach their full poten tial. The other symbols represent the students, the parents, the teaching staff and the commu nity who, together, form the large star guiding students in achieving their dreams."
