Laila Aggag and Nicole Nseir took first with their two-minute video titled Speak Out! -- showing a female worker being harassed and discriminated against by her boss. "I'm thrilled these students have shown such a keen understanding of their workplace rights, and health and safety," said Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn, Ontario Minister of Labour. "We are reminded, through these top-notch videos, we all must ask questions and continue to be vigilant at the workplace. We need to ensure all young people know their rights-- specifically, they need to know they can refuse unsafe work. Contests like the It' s Your Job video challenge are helping Ontario workplaces to continue to be the safest in Canada and among the safest FO R Oakville MPP and Minister of Labour Kevin Flynn, far left and award winners, left to right, Nicole Nseir, Laila Aggag and school board Chair Jean-Francois L 'Heureux. | submitted photo in the world." The video encourages viewers to speak out against workplace harassment and stand up for their rights. The two students will share the $2,000 first-place prize. Their school will also receive $2,000. The Ministry of Labour' s annual It' s Your Job contest asks students to develop an original video that can be used on social media to illustrate the importance of working safely on the job. According to the Ministry of Labour, workers new to their job, including young workers, are three times more likely to be injured in their first month on the job than at any other time. Each year, the ministry says more than 6,000 young workers in Ontario are injured seriously enough to need time off work, which amounts to more than 17 Ontario youths a day.
