She was born in Wales, United Kingdom (U K ) to a father who loved to paint in oils and nurtured a love of the medium in her from an early age. "He was a huge influence," she says, adding that he liked to paint horses. Manuel went on to study at the Royal College of Art in London, but when she graduated in 1994, she found it was difficult to find work as an artist. She studied illustration and ani mation, and eventually landed a job as computer games artist for a company called Blitz Games in the UK. She worked as a computer games artist for eight years where she created concept art, textures and 3D models for a number of projects within the same company.
