Kids in school and childcare set tings are one of the main carriers of flu in the community and are the ones most likely to bring the virus home. Chris Jewell, Administrator, Com m unications Services for the Halton Catholic District School Board, recalls that last year, many students and staff were affected with flu symptoms. "Our Board encourages staff, students, and families to consider the vaccine available at the public flu clinics since it greatly lowers your chance of getting sick from the flu." Gary Sadler, superintendent with the Halton District School Board, agrees that the best defense against influenza is a flu shot. "We're really pleased that the flu vaccine is available to everyone this year. We're hoping that all families will take advantage of the program," states Sadler. Flu shots are for every one, even kids over eight months of age. Both school boards have offered space for Halton Region Health Department to hold public flu shot clin ics during November and December. Clinics will be held in m ost high schools and several elementary schools beginning today.
