Taxicab By-law R eview The Town of Oakville is changing its Licensing By-law 2015-075 with respect to taxicab regulations. Public consultation was held in 2016 as part of the town's Taxicab By-law Review and in December 2016, Town Council passed a resolution directing staff to report back in summer 2017 with initial changes to the taxicab by-law that could be implemented quickly to provide fair and balanced treatment of the ride selling market (interim taxi by-law). These recommended · Reducing the number of mandatory taxi inspections · Eliminating taxi driver training (except for accessible vehicles) · Eliminating vehicle size and spare tire requirements · Increasing the time a taxicab can sit unused · Reducing taxi driver and plate transfer fees · Changes to the new taxi driver and licence transfer fees will take effect upon approval of the by-law · Renewal fees for taxi drivers will be reduced during the 2018 renewal period (March 31, 2018) The town is reviewing taxicab regulations to ensure they continue to meet the needs of the community. The review will be completed and presented to council in 2018. D etails Visit oakville.ca.
