On Monday morning, June 5, Majid Rezayat was in his office, with a window view of his front yard, when he looked out and saw two coyotes. At first he thought they were chasing a bird, but upon going outside to see what happened, he discovered the hairs of his daughter Lily's 13-year-old black Persian cat, Pico, on the ground and in the mouths of the two coyotes, he told the Oakville Beaver. Rezayat and his family live in a neighbourhood near Ford Drive and Lakeshore Road. Pico was a valued family member, so the family was grief-stricken after his untimely death, the Oakville father said. While the cat was originally named Picasso, Pico became his nickname shortly after they Pico | submitted photo got him. "My daughter has been in the family room crying," said Rezayat. "She was calling the cat, `My brother.' She has lost him. All of us feel we have lost one of our family members. He had 13 years with us. He was a black cat, very sweet. It' s unfortunate we lost him." The coyotes, which apparently may have numbered more than two, according to what Rezayat was told by a neighbour, took off in different directions, which prompted the resident to get in his car to find them, but with no luck. "I drove by to see if I could find them, but they were gone," said Rezayat. While taking Lily to an appointment, he dropped by the Oakville & Milton Humane Society to ask what could be done, but Rezayat didn't get an answer he was hoping for, he said.
