"We have two boats right now, but they're a little weathered. We just need it for our volunteers and guests. We need a new boat," said Cull, who is the president of the charity; Cull started the group in 2003 to provide accessible, recreational boating at no cost to people of all ages who are deprived of the opportunity as a result of physical limitations or personal circumstances. Cull, who is a quadriplegic, was injured in a tobogganing accident as a youth. The CharterAbility dock, which is located on Sixteen Mile Creek adjoining Busby Park, is fully accessible, including on-site washrooms and the pontoon boat that transports guests through an hour-long ride through wild life sanctuary in downtown Oakville. Trips are provided free-of-charge, courtesy of the donations the group receives and the volunteers who operate the boats. "We're a charity at capacity," Cull adds. Last season, Cull said CharterAbility volunteers provided more than 425 free boat rides bringing in more than 3,000 people to the downtown area - encouraging people to support local businesses. Currently, there are already 160 boat trips booked for this season. Cull said his goal is to have a boat in the water by Aug. 1. He is hoping teamwork or new partnerships may hold the answers. M e a n w h ile , the June 10 event will be held at Oakville Power Boat Club on 150 Water St. Stephen Cull Free boat rides will be offered from 5 to 9 p.m. Culinary tastings, such as samples, hors d'oeuvres, will be provided by 11 downtown restaurants beginning at 6 p.m. A classic Greek dinner, by Colossus Greet Taverna, begins at 7 p.m., followed by a dessert table. In addition to the food, the event also includes wine, whiskey and beer tasting. Four bands will provide the entertainment. And, here will be $10,000 worth of auction and raffle items. Advance tickets cost $50, or $60 at the door. For more information, call 905-844-7208, email info@charterabilitycom or visit www charterability.com.
