The Province is offering a new, permanent di rect funding option, which will be implemented by the end of this year through the Ontario Au tism Program (OAP). This will allow families to choose between re ceiving direct service or receiving funding to pur chase services for their child. Ontario is investing $500 million over the next four years to create new services for children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Michael Coteau, Minister of Children and Youth Services, made the announcement at Mon arch House in Oakville May f8, where he spoke with families about the plan to offer flexible ser vices and supports for children and youths with autism. "We made a decision, as a government, to make some massive changes in the Ontario Au tism Program. We're rolling out a new program that is reflective of the needs of families in On tario," said Coteau. Starting in June, families will begin to transi tion into the new OAP, which will provide flex ible services that are customized to the needs of each child, regardless of age.
