The local politician, who is minister re sponsible for early years and child care, said the money comes as Ontario's largest ever in vestment in capital funding for child care. The funds will focus on creating more li censed spaces in schools this year and will ex pand to other public spaces over the next five years. The Province is inviting school boards to start submitting proposals now, with ap proved projects to be announced in the com ing months. "This is very exciting news for areas like Milton and Halton, where there's a lot of growth," she said. "Areas like that will feel this growth in the child-care system in a very real way" Naidoo-Harris also unveiled the Province's renewed Early Years and Child Care Policy Framework -- a document that will help guide Ontario's larger pledge to help 100,000 more children up to age four access licensed child care over the next five years. "It's a very exciting day What we are do ing is really creating a blueprint to build a foundation for quality, accessible, affordable licensed child care," she said. "This sets us on a path toward a universally accessible child care system for Ontario families." According to the Province, the framework reflects feedback the ministry received during engagement sessions held in 20 communities across Ontario, 15 roundtables with the early years sector and more than 6,000 responses to an online survey. The framework presents seven specific ac tion items. As part of the framework, the Province also intends to launch an expert-led Affordability Strategy to identify options to further reduce child care costs and review the current fund ing approach to child care. But criticisms of the announcement also quickly flowed with Ontario NDP early years and child care critic Catherine Fife issuing a statement calling it a "publicity stunt by a Liberal government more concerned about its political fortunes ahead of next year's elec tion than about the urgent needs of families."
