The film will be presented on Sunday, June 23 at 3 :3 0 p.m. at film.ca Cinemas, 171 Speers Rd. The festival returns for a fourth year from Friday, June 23 to Sunday, June 25, presenting 19 feature films and docu mentaries. In addition to a wide range of films, this year' s festival includes exclusive events and opportunities to meet direc tors, actors and filmmakers from across Canada and North America. Director Yaron Betan said Heroes Manufactured was a year in the making, featuring the lives of five comic book artists. "It' s a behind-the-scenes film about the comic book industry," he com m ent ed. One of the artists featured is Alfon so Espinos. The film shows Espinos' s struggles, said Betan. Espinos is an award-winning Cana dian comic book creator and illustrator. He is the founder of Studiocomix Press, where he is the project's chief editor, publishing the ongoing series The Night Spike. Espinos's work focuses on publish ing his own original material. He also supports and works alongside a team of new emergent graphic artists and comic enthusiasts to start up in the indie com ic book business by developing titles for almost all kinds of genres. Heroes Manufactured also features the work of artist Stan Lee, who is credited as creating the Marvel Comics char acters in the 1960s, which introduced more complex characterizations for su perheroes. Lee is widely known for the block buster movies Iron Man (2 0 0 8 ), SpiderMan (2 0 0 2 ) and Iron Man 3 (2 0 1 3 ). The film also showcases the work of American artist Kevin Smith, who is an accomplished screenwriter, actor, producer, director, comic book writer and author, who wrote a graphic novel about Jay and Silent Bob entitled Chas ing Dogma. Artists Shane Kirshenblatt and Mark Shainblum are also featured in the film. Espinos to appear at screening Espinos will be present for the screen ing of Heroes Manufactured and will be available for questions.
