O f the rem ainder, 60% see no changes while 8% haven't finalize their hiring requirem ents. `T h e outlook for the O akville/Burlington jo b m arket was a bit brighter as 2000 was about to begin," said M anpow er spokesperson Claire Small. "A t that time, 20% forecasted new openings and 2% anticipated reductions. Three m onths ago, em ployers w ere upbeat as 37% projected hiring, but 10% said they w ould trim their payrolls." N ew jo b opportunities are expected this w inter in durable goods m anufacturing and services. Construction firm s plan cutbacks, w hile non-durable goods manufacturers, transportation/public utilities and finance/insurance/real estate firm s, as well as w holesale/retail m erchants voiced mixed intentions.
