9 | Friday July 7 , 2 0 1 7 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | w w w .insidehalton.com Students re-enact police pursuit continued from p.5 "We were very impressed with the professionalism of the students on filming day," said Hudon, who met with the class beforehand to plan the video. "The students were engaged and asked a lot of questions about the SIU to ensure the video accurately reflected what the SIU did and the objectives of the video series. The students also reviewed prior SIU videos to ensure the look and feel remained similar." On the day of the shoot, Hudon said the WOSS students worked "tirelessly" for six hours and filmed a re-enactment of a pursuit using Halton police and recorded SIU forensic investigators working at the scene and in the lab. Once filming was complete, the students spent the next several weeks editing the product. "We reviewed the final product and we were delighted with the quality of work. It is obvious the amount of work that went into the video, during class hours and after hours," said Hudon. "The students and Mr. Andrews welcomed all feedback and any changes we suggested actually came back to us better than we had anticipated." Grade 11 student Hailey Roseland-Barnes, who directed the car chase scene during the filming, said shooting the video was a "lot of fun" since this was her first time doing so. "It was a really good opportunity for me because this is something I want to do in my future. I want to do film. It was a good way for me to get into that professional setting instead of just learning in class," said Roseland-Barnes, noting there were four cinematographers, two directors, four editors and two others working on audio, during the video shoot. "It's not just for fun, it's an actual organization asking us to do this. I wanted to make sure it was happy with what it got." Roseland-Barnes noted she and m ost of her classmates had never heard of the SIU and what it does before making the video. "It is a pretty big deal. If you think about it, it is the police of the police," said RoselandBarnes. "It's cool to know there are people higher up than the police." Hudon said experiences such as these help Ontario students with limited work experience develop transferable skills, support their career goals and learn more about the Ontario government. "The SIU understands the importance of exposing young people to real-life experiences," she said, noting the SIU also participates in Take Our Kids to Work Day annually and offers co-op placements for college and university students and summer work for students and law students.
