These criteria did not in clude recreation, beauty, the Ontario Climate Change Ac tion Plan or Ontario Health Plan. In essence, the hands of the OMB were tied. A friend told me 18 months ago the Saw Whet proposal was a done deal and not worth fighting. I didn't believe her and was convinced Oakville Town Council and residents could put a compelling argument against the destruction of this popular recreational fa cility and precious green oa sis in built-up Oakville. I guess I was a chump, but I'm not sorry I made the ef fort. I am sorry the Town of Oakville went back on its word, made secret decisions and sided with the developer. Four elected represen tatives voted against this development agreement (when it was before Halton Region Council), Regional Chair Gary Carr, and Oakville regional councillors Allan El gar and Sean O'Meara and Burlington's Marianne Meed Ward. Oakville residents should remember this next time they vote for people to repre sent their interests. Oakville Town Council has betrayed the environ ment and wishes of Oakville residents, but it has also at tacked our trust in the gover nance of this town. Glen Abbey?
