"It is part of a global 'rib bon of light' that will shine in every time zone as a sign of hope and renewal for the future. They will walk hand-in-hand from the Legion on Navy, along Lakeshore to the Towne Square...We have a piper that's leading them in...So, that opens up and starts our millennium eve celebrations," says Milhomens. As the beacons approach their destination, the street lights will be dimmed to accent the ribbon of light. When the human ribbon reaches Towne Square, the open ing ceremonies will begin, including opening remarks by Mayor Ann Mulvale and the singing of the National Anthem by young Oakville singer M arieve H erington. CHWO's Jim Paulsen will be the emcee for the night. At 7 p.m., which is midnight Greenwich Mean Time, another countdown for children will begin and the unveiling of the M illennium C lock will take place. "So families can still expe rience an early evening with the young children before they fall asleep," explains Milhomens. The evening's entertainment will begin at 7:15 with Herington singing another couple of tunes, followed by the O akville C hristian School C h ild ren 's Choir. At 8 p.m. local singer/songwriter Ernie G will take over with some of his music, which ranges from Latin to pop rock. Then at 8:45 illusionist Bishwam bhar Dass will baffle visitors with his sleight-of-hand magic and large-scale illusions, after which Juno nominee Father M ark C urtis will enter tain at 9:30. A special M illennium Town Choir, made up of choristers from 10 different churches in Oakville, will sing their praises to God for the past year at 10:30, followed by the FabFour: a trib ute to The Beatles - "voted the number-one selling band of the century. The introduction to their show is the actual introduction that Ed Sullivan used to intro duce The Beatles. They have the actual footage...and they're going to have that on screen," says Milhomens, adding that these look-alikes will entertain with popular Beatles songs at 11. "They're in full uniform, exactly as they were back then. They do three different clothes changes. They use the same instruments as The Beatles used. And they do three different eras of The Beatles - the '60s, '70s, and '80s." At 11:55 p.m. the entertain ment will turn to the official countdown, followed by the singing of 'Auld Lang Syne' by G uy L o m b ard o 's Royal C an ad ian s at midnight, after which the FabFour will take to the stage again. People are being encouraged to dress warmly, bring blankets and lawn chairs, and snuggle up for an evening of fun and enter tainment. "CHWO will be doing a live remote from the square. So if people can't come out, they can still be part of the Oakville cele brations," says Milhomens. "They are actually going to be playing, as of 2 o'clock in the afternoon, a countdown of the top 100 songs of the century as cho sen by their listeners.. .We'll have that running in the square in between our sets."
