Oakville kids sell lemonade to help save Glen Abbey by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff A group of Oakville youths manned a lemonade stand and sold their hearts out at Dorval Drive and Upper Middle Road Sunday (July 30) in an effort to keep Glen Abbey Golf Course from being developed. Abbey Lane Public School stu dents Adam Cameron, 10, and Da vid, 9, and Erik, 10, Svendsen took advantage of the bnal day of the Canadian Open to raise awareness and funds for their cause. In a video posted on Facebook Adam and David hold "Save Glen Abbey" signs and talk about why they chose to sling lemonade for Glen Abbey. "The golf course is important to me because there is wildlife and if they construct on it there will be less habitats for animals to live in," said Adam. "It's good for our community and it is a nice addition for our neighbourhood. " David also shared his thoughts on the matter. "We already have enough houses and malls and apartments. We don't need anymore," he commented. The boys' message was appar ently well received, with their Facebook video receiving around 5,600 views as of Tuesday (Aug. 1) afternoon. They also succeeded in raising $300 with their lemonade stand for the Save Glen Abbey residents' association. The boys also distrib uted "Save Glen Abbey" signs and business cards. This is not the first time Adam has used lemonade to support a cause he believed in. Last year he set up a lemonade stand and raised $100 for the Oakville and Milton Humane Society In the Facebook video Adam says he is no stranger to Glen Ab bey Golf Course having taken golf lessons there and visited the Cana dian Open in the past. He said he hopes to play there in the future. David noted the golf course is important to the surrounding com munity "I plan on playing there later," he said. "A lot of people like the golf course." The boys noted that anyone who missed out on the lemonade can still help by signing a petition to save Glen Abbey Golf Course at www.saveglenabbey.ca.
