Children' s Aid has been involved in TJ' s life off and on throughout the years because his parent has been in and out ofjail. TJ tries to stay focused and he is a well-rounded child despite all that has gone on in his young life, including the recent death of an older sibling. School continues to be a happy place for TJ and, with financial support, he can participate in school teams and many other aspects of school life. A Back to School donation to the Halton Learning Foundation can ensure students like TJ are included in school activities that can help keep them in school and engaged in learning. The Oakville Fire Department reports there were no injuries in a $200,000 blaze in a vacant home under renovation on Redbank Crescent Sunday (Aug. 6) evening. | Riziero Vertolli/Metroland No injuries in house fire by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff Not every student in Halton has the chance to go back to school shopping. For about 1 in 10 students in Burlington, Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills, school supplies, new clothing or the opportunity to go on a school field trip are luxuries they simply cannot afford. The Halton Learning Foundation provides emergency funds and subsidies to students of the Halton District School Board to keep kids in school and engaged in learning. To donate to kids like the one featured above, call 335-3665 x3408 or x3388, or donate online at www.haltonlearningfoundation.ca Some names and identifying details have been changed to protect the privacy of individuals involved. The Oakville Fire Department says no one was injured following a blaze, which took place at a home on Redbank Crescent, Sunday evening (Aug. 6). Deputy Fire Chief Paul Boissonneault said neighbours called 911 to report smoke and flame coming from the structure at around 11 p.m. "Upon our arrival there were flames actually coming out of the roof," he said. "The fire had gotten up into the attic space so crews had to do roof cuts to access the fire." No one was home at the time of the blaze and no neighbouring residences were damaged. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Boissonneault said the property had been undergoing renovations for the past few days. Despite the fire being brought under control fairly quickly there was significant fire damage to parts of the roof and smoke damage throughout the entire home. Damage to the property is estimated at between $150,000 and $200,000. 150 b ir t h d a y L i v i n g L a r g e in a S m a lle r S p a c e E x p o Join us fo r an open house w ith our community partners who specialize in financial planning, downsizing, preparing your home fo r sale and moving.
