Oakville Beaver Weekend Sunday, July 16, 2000 50 OVERW EIGHT PEOPLE NEEDED Little League All-Stars trounce OMBA Selects 18-1 Two pitchers combine for no-hitter Backed by A. J. O'Brodovich's stellar pitching performance -- 11 strikeouts in five innings -- the Little League Minor AA All-Stars ( ll years) coasted to an 18-1 victory over a Oakville Minor Baseball Association (OMBA) Select squad on July 8th. O'Brodovich and Alex Camall, who pitched the final two innings of the seven inning contest, combined for a no-hitter. The rare all-star contest between the two minor baseball leagues was played under Little League rules with no lead-offs. The Little League All-Stars were powered by Scott DeGroot's four hits, 2 RBI's, and two runs, Matt Downer's two hits and three runs, and two hits and two runs each from Roger Lambert, Chris Stewart and Ryan Mallough. Additional runs were scored by Marko Dinordic, O'Brodovich, Daniel Keresteci and Alden Black. Sergio Lujanand and Camall drove in one run each. The two leagues differ in their approaches towards all-star team selections. All of the Little Leaguers play in the Major (II & 12 year olds) house league. A team of all-stars are chosen for the Major ( 12 years) and a similar process is used to select the ll-year-old team. The OMBA holds open tryouts for their Town Rep teams, with those not making the Rep team playing for a Select team, or on a house league team.
