North Oakville Strategic Land Use Options Study Economic Development Staff are partici pating on the Technical Committee dealing with this important project. Hemson Consulting was awarded the contract by Oakville's Planning Services Department to provide a high level analysis of the strategic land use opportunities north of Dundas Street (and south of Highway 407). The study is intended to identify, among other things, areas and lands to be designated for em ploym ent purposes. Oakville's Economic Development Strategy recommended approximately 900 hectares of lands be designated for employment pur poses north of Dundas Street. As Oakville's current supply of industrial land is limited, availability of new employ ment lands north of Dundas Street will be critical to the ability to attract new business, provide employment opportunities for resi dents and enhance the local tax base. The chair of the Oakville Economic Development Alliance was invited to sit as a member of the Community Resource Group, which is providing stakeholder input. Hotel Development Has Bright Future The town's newest hotel -- the Holiday Inn Express -- is set to open this month. The new 144-room hotel located in Oakville's west end, brings the total number of hotel rooms in the community 630. Assistance has also been provided to the developers of the new Hilton Garden Inn, which is planned for South Sheridan Way in Oakville's east end. The hotel is to be locat- ed across from Winston Business Park and will enhance the Town's ability to satisfy a growing demand from the corporate sector and from overnight tourism. Economic development staff are currently working with another hotel company from the United States to find locations in Oakville for an additional facility. Cox Aerofoils Expansion in QEW West Economic Development staff assisted Cox Aerofoils with their expansion on Speers Road. The company manufactures precision parts for the aerospace industry. The company has recently been successful in winning contracts with General Electric and needed to expand their facility. The company purchased a larger building on Speers Road and began with plans to expand this facility. Still time to register for U.S. trade seminar Tax and legal specialists from Michigan will be on hand at the Nov. 18th seminar on `Doing Business in the United States' pre sented by the International Trade Committee of the Oakville Chamber o f Commerce. The com pany expansion is now com plete and employment at the business is now up to 27. Industrial Zoning Categories to be consolidated Economic developm ent staff are partic ipating on a Technical Com m ittee, provid ing input and advice on the overhaul of O akville's industrial and com m ercial zon ing classifications.
