Oakville Skating Club will be well represented at the eastern divisional The Oakville Skating Club's national stream skaters competed at last weekend's all-important 2000 Bank of Montreal Central Ontario Sectional Championships at Mississauga IceLand. The club managed to advance several skaters to the 2000 Bank of Montreal Eastern Division Championships which will be held Dec. 2-5th in Laval, Quebec. This is the final step before the nationals, slated for Jan. 26-30th in Calgary. A top four finish was required at the sectionals to advance to the divisional. In freeskate, Tim Hewitt advanced with a 4th place finish in the junior's men's division. Hewitt, two years, ago reached the national championships in the novice division. Hewitt continues to represent the OSC and now trains primarily at the Mariposa National Training Center in Barrie. This division was won by an Oakville resident, Eric Ritter, who trains at the ARC Academy in Etobicoke. Ritter was a former member of OSC in competitive dance but moved to ARC when he decided to pursue his freeskate goals. The remaining Oakville competitors to advance were all in dance -- two duos in the junior division and two in the novice division. In each case, the duos are made up of individuals from dif ferent home clubs (and the Oakville Skating Club member is noted in bold face). Advancing in junior dance were Debbie Allworth and John Lane who placed second and Julie MacDonald and Michael Fawcett who placed third. Both duos reached the nationals last year, in the novice division, with MacDonald/Fawcett collecting a national silver medal and Allworth/Lane finishing sixth. Advancing in novice dance were Laura Stoveld and Geoff Deeth who finished third and Mary-Helen French and Kevin Gallagher who finished fourth. Complete results are included for both the sectionals and subsectionals adjacent to this story. The club's up and coming skaters, meanwhile, are gearing up for the annual interclub competitions, of which there are two streams. The first starts with the club competition (on Dec. 18th at River Oaks) with the top two advancing to the Metro West Interclub (on Feb. 12/13th at Westwood Arena in Toronto) with the top two advancing to the Central Ontario Section Interelub Championship (on March 4/5th at the North York Centennial Center). The second stream starts with Challenge 2000 (on Feb. 26 & 27) with the top three advancing to the Ontario Interclub Championships (on March 18/19th) at North York.
