Oakville Beaver Weekend S und ay, N o v e m b e r 2 1 , 1999 CFO sets up Margaret Anderson Family Fund Margaret Anderson, the driving force behind the establishment of Ian Anderson House (IAH) -- Ontario's first free stand ing cancer hospice -- has made a $25,000 donation to the Community Foundation of Oakville (CFO) to establish the Margaret Anderson Family Fund. Anderson is no stranger to the Community Foundation of Oakville, as the Foundation has supported the Ian Anderson House through a number of grants over the past several years. "I believe that we should all give back to our community and that by establish ing a personal endowment fund with the Community Foundation of Oakville, sup port for vital community services and new initiatives will be here today as well although most individuals would choose to die at home, there are many who can not, for whatever reason, receive the nec essary round the clock care in their home. The impact of her own experience fueled Anderson to offer an alternative for families living with terminal cancer by establishing Ian Anderson House. The home is designed to provide qual ity care in a homelike and safe environ ment. Another of its important roles is to support family members and to help them cope with the uncertainty and loneliness that surrounds a death in the family. It took over seven years of struggle, lobbying and fundraising to get Ian Anderson House established. (1715820) Bronte Creek Park seeks Christm as Festival participants Business, community groups and cor porations are invited to participate in the third annual Community Christmas Festival at Bronte Creek Provincial Park. "We are very excited about this year's event," says the festival organizer Sheila Wiebe. "This year you have three excit ing opportunities! First, everyone is invited to "sponsor" and decorate a Christmas tree or the second option, to design and decorate a gingerbread house for display. The third option allows you to do both!" Trees will be "rented" for $5 a foot (minimum six feet), and gingerbread houses display fee of $25 with all pro ceeds going to The Children's Wish Foundation. Gingerbread houses can be store bought or homemade. All Christmas trees are provided by the park. The trees will be located inside our Winter Wonderland structure. The park will supply a sign with the name of participating organizations dis played in front of the tree. Festival sponsors, White Rose and the Friends of Bronte Creek Park, invite the public to view and vote on their favourite decorated tree. Trees will be on display for public viewing Dec. 5th to Jan. 2nd -- community favourites will be announced in the New Year. On Saturday, Dec. 4th, and Sunday, Dec. 5th, from noon to 7 p.m., partici pants and families are invited to the park to decorate their tree or display their gin gerbread house.
