Skipper Scott Leduc and crew Kyle Feeney scored the lowest (best) number of points in the 10race competition, which counted each boat's top nine finishes. It's the first time an Oakville entrant has won the Sea Cadet Regatta. Leduc and Feeney won four races, finished second in three, third in one and fourth in another. The runner-up duo of Estelle The Oakville girls under-13B Wild won its second straight tournament, claiming the championship at Kick'n in the Capital. Another Oakville sailor, skipper Aaron Trenholme, competed in the races, with Paige Tees of Thunder Bay as crew. The 50 top Sea Cadet sailors competed to test navigation skills and endurance ability. "During the past week, a kind of camaraderie was established among the sea cadets," said Cody Coté, the Regatta Co-ordinator. "They were ready and they all competed well." While the weather was fine, the light winds added to the difficulty of the event. "Sailing well in light, shifting winds is a real challenge," Coté said. The 3-2 victory over the Ottawa City Soccer Club's T1 Giamberardino gave the Oakville squad its second straight tournament win following its victory in Michigan in August. The Wild went undefeated with two wins and two ties in round-robin play. Opening against the same Ottawa team the Wild would meet in the final, Oakville played to a 1-1 draw. It then blanked Ottawa South United Force White 8-0 and followed that up with another decisive victory, 7-0 over Unionville Milliken SC. Oakville wrapped up the round-robin with a 2-2 tie against the Gloucester Hornets. Oakville earned its place in the championship game with a 3-1 semifinal victory over the Ottawa Internationals Soccer Club -- Chislett.
