A Day in the Life of Oakville invites resi dents to take photos of the town throughout the day and submit them into a gallery as historical documents. Oakville is celebrat ing many significant anniversaries this year, including Canada' s sesquicentennial, the 50th anniversary of OPLs Central Branch (Centennial Build ing), and the 40th anniversary of the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, which are great sub jects to focus on and O capture memories. Submission details for A Day in the Life of Oakville was available online as of Sept. 23 and photos will be ac cepted until Sept. 30. In light of the li brary' s upcoming an niversary, a free, all-ag es celebration will be held Dec. 2 from 1-4 p.m. in the Central Branch Auditorium. Details will be avail able on the library' s website. OPL will hold its first Family History Fair later this fall. At tendees will have the opportunity to drop in and speak with histor ical and genealogical groups and family his tory product vendors, as well as pre-register for free workshops with genealogical speakers. The event will run Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Queen Elizabeth Park Community & Cultural Centre. The library has also recently released a se ries of videos focus ing on moments in Oakville' s history. The initiative is helping to spread awareness about Oakville' s extensive lineage and share infor mation on interesting historical events, orga nizations, and monu ments. Six Oakville Heritage Moments are now available to view on OPLs YouTube page. OPL will also hold a great lineup of informa tion sessions and work shops on genealogy and family history. On Sept. 28, Trish Keogh from Pictures in Place will lead a photo organization and sto rytelling session. The two-part workshop -- also on Oct. 26 -- will provide tips for pre serving family history through photos and introduce technology for sharing a collection. Also in September, professional genealo gist Tammy Tipler-Priolo, also known as The Ancestor Investigator, will lecture on how to conduct Quebec ge nealogical research. In this session -- on Sept. 30 -- Tipler-Priolo will discuss the differences between historical re cords and provide in formation on reliable research tools. On Nov. 23, Ruth Blair, a well-known local profes sional genealogist, will discuss modern day research for First World War veterans, cover ing technology and resources available to locate military ser vice records. Blair will return Feb. 20 with a session focused on the Genealogical Proof Standard (GPS), walking participants through GPS and help deci pher information they found. OPL runs multiple pro grams on genealogy and his tory throughout the year and provides library cardholders with access to numerous re sources for genealogical and historical research, including Ancestry Library Edition, a popular genealogy and DNA database.
