On Sept. 20 at 8:43 p.m., Huron County On tario Provincial Police (OPP), the Goderich Fire Department, and Huron County Paramedic Ser vices began receiving witness reports of a small airplane that appeared to be flying in distress near the Goderich Municipal Sky Harbour Airport, said OPP in a media release. The OPP and the Trenton Joint Rescue Co ordination Centre immediately commenced a ground, air and water search. On Thursday (Sept. 21) at 2:30 a.m., Huron OPP Marine Unit members located one of the crash victims in Lake Huron, approximately one and a half kilometres from the shoreline. This victim was identified as Veronica Draghici, 36, from Brampton. On Friday (Sept. 22) at 11:52 a.m., police said members of the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit located a second victim inside the heavily damaged airplane, a Cessna 150 J. The discovery was made close to the area where the first victim was found. This victim was identified as Edward Grodecki, 62, of Oakville. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada. Sept. 25. Firefighters were called to the apartment at about 6 p.m., following reports of a blaze on the 19 th floor. "When we arrived there was smoke showing from the east side of the building," said Deputy Fire Chief Paul Boissonneault. "When fire crews got up there, they were able to contain the fire." Boissonneault said the fire was located inside an apartment unit on the 19th floor and quickly extinguished. He noted it was not necessary to evacuate the building. One person was taken to hospital by Halton EMS. The extent of their injuries was not known as of press time. Boissonneault said the apartment where the fire started was undergoing renovations, but not ed the cause of the blaze has yet to be determined. The fire was contained to one apartment.
