It was a day to celebrate the past, while looking to the future, for Sheridan College. "Sheridan is 50 years young today. We certainly have much to celebrate," said Mary Preece, Sheridan president and vice chancellor. "It' s about looking forward to the next 50 years to continue the journey from great to greater and continuing to inspire us to do our best," added Preece. The post-secondary school hosted a 50th anniversary event for students, staff and community members at its Oakville campus on Trafalgar Road. It featured a number of displays, including a mobile Colleges Ontario exhibit. "Oakville is a city, or town, where Sheridan has very deep roots. We turned the sod for this campus back in November 1968. Over the past five decades, we've built some of our most important programs and partnerships in Oakville," said Preece. "For many years, our school of skilled trades and apprenticeship worked closely with Oakville' s manufacturing sector to give our trades and apprenticeship students a strong career foundation." Sheridan also has renowned programs in animation, music theatre, film and television, among others, with graduates winning numerous prestigious awards for their work, Preece said. "Our growth in Oakville could not be possible without the steadfast support of the Town of Oakville and our provincial government," said Preece. Wai Chu Cheng, Sheridan sustainability co-ordinator, said she felt "really excited and very happy" to see the completion and introduction of the garden, which was a transformative project for the college. see Sheridan on p.11 OAKVILLE UNITED TAXI 7 DAYS A WEEK ~ n* L l ___ Airport & Out-of-Town Service S in c e 1991 T h in k in g o f Flat Rates to Airport & Out of Town R e t ir in g . . . e d a y ?
