The local utility used the 18th Annual Fire Prevention Week Kickoff to announce a $2,500 grant for the fire department's public education programs. "We make it a priority to support important and much-needed programs like the Oakville Fire Department's Fire Prevention Week," said Mark Egbedeyi-Emmanuel, district manager for Hamilton/Halton Union Gas. "At Union Gas, safety is a top priority, and we are committed to keeping ourselves, our teams and our communities safe." The Oakville Fire Department said its intent in hosting the Fire Prevention Week Kickoff is to educate the public about the basic essential elements of smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) alarm safety.
