w w w .insidehalton.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, O ctober 1 3 , 2 0 1 7 | 14 Advertorial C hoosing a d e n tis tis not like choosing a new car By Dr. Steven Solomon How tim es have changed. I rem em ber so well how my father would choose his nextcar. He loved Cadillacs and always told me th a t " Cadillac makes the best car" . It was not so much th a t Cadillac; actually made the best car but rather it was his belief th a t Cadillac was the car th a t made sense tor him. Being only six-tears old, this initially m ade sense to me, but as the m arketplace changed and so mann other great cars became asailable, I think my father m issed out; on arr opportunity So drive som e equally good or even betaer cars. This was m ost particularly accurate when the tim e cam e th a t Cadillac was likely not she hest value tor his money but my father nonetheless bought anothen Cadil|ac. TodnyVs consum er is tar (netter educahed as to what in aaailable, is likety given (quite a bit of incorrect inform a tion, and generally spends less tim e when m aking a con sum er purchase. Dentistry is not like my tathers Cadilla c n or is it like m ost purchases you will make but there are som e les sons to take to heart. Below are som e questions th a t are im portant to consider when looking for a n e w dentist. Points to consider · W hat exactly are you lo o kin g fo r in new dentict p a re n t relationseip? · W hat are the hours uh operation? · Does the office offer direct bilHng? If they do , ih e p will be able to biM your insura ncu company directly · How many years oh experience doea the dentist have and for how long1 have they been at th is iocation? · Does the office cater to em ergency patients? · How long has the support sta ff been with the dentist? Is the office child friendly/'? · Whan servicvs does the office provide and wheat ser vices do thea reteh out? It is important; to understand th a t nor presiding a certain seraice may nett m e a t th a t the d e n list is in any way less desireable a lueation to attenu. O ften a referal to s p e cia lists is in th e p a tie n t's Vast in le re st. · W here is the office located? · Is it convenient and is parking free? · Do they offer newer technology such as digital x-rays or same-day crowns? I would encourage you to make a m ental note of som e of these points and think them through when seeking a new dentist. It is not a sim ple process. The above points are ju s t a startin g point but in the end what m ost people want is a professional relationship. Unlike the Cadillac, a pro fessional relationship involves more than sim ply the pur chase of a product for short term use, and unlike the magazine com m ercial showing the Cadillac's features, the online world can show a lot of good inform ation and m ost im portantly a lot of m isinform ation. It really is not like my father's Cadillac anymore. Dr. Solomon works out of Oakville Place Dental Office lo cated in Oakville Place at 240 Leighland Ave., suite 139A.
