The new exhibit opened recently and runs until Sunday, Nov. 12. In this exhibition, The Connections Fibre Artists will celebrate 150 years of C anada with w ork in spired by settlers and pio neers. The Oakville Stitchery Guild, one of the first em broidery G uilds in Canada, will pay tribute to C onstance Howard, the artist and teacher w ho brought em broidery to C anada in 1972. She is considered the m ost influential British pioneer in textile design of her generation. The Oakville Stitchery Guild m eets m onthly at Jo sh u a Creek Heritage Art Centre, with guest speakers and instructors, classes, and w orkshops on stitchery techniques and fabric art. Characteristic w ork includes experim ental em broidery by hand and/ or m achine, m ixed m edia fibre w ork, soft jewellery, lace-m aking, knitting, crocheting, quilting, doll m aking, beading, stum p w ork, altered book-m ak ing and silk ribbon em broidery. The Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre's exhibit, A Fibre Art Feast, in underway and will continue until Sunday, Nov. 12. Fibre is the m edium that connects them, giv ing their art depth and texture that other m edia can only dream of. Their w ork is highly diverse, from silk fusion to thread painting, soft sculpture to m achine em broidery, hand-quilting to photo transfer, fibre w rapping and beading, with new techniques and disciplines occurring reg ularly. Jo sh u a Creek Heritage Art Centre is located at 1086 Burnham thorpe Rd. E. in Oakville. The art centre is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 1-4 p .m ., or by appoint m ent, and is closed on M ondays.
