Halloween for Hunger popular with students Halloween for Hunger is an October food drive that has taken on a life of its own, according to Nancy Bromberg of Fare Share Food Bank. Many Oakville schools mobilize their students to run food drives under the name Halloween for Hunger in support of Fare Share. The Halloween For Hunger Food Drive, is currently underway. The initiative began at Abbey Park High School several years ago with students collecting for the food bank in the days leading up to Halloween. Other high schools also adopted the practice and with Halloween For Hun ger becoming Fare Share' s fourth beneficiary food drive following Thanks giving, Christmas and Easter. YMCA of Oakville Peace Medal nominations close October 21 Whether organizing food drives, fundraising to build schools in developing countries, creating awareness about terrorist attacks, promoting anti-bullying and more, Victoria Winslow' s passion for helping others is clear. And it was this passion for making a difference, in our community and beyond, that made her the recipient of a 2016 YMCA Peace Medal. If you know a youth, adult or group who is making a difference in our community, nominate them for a 2 0 1 7 YMCA Peace Medal. Nominations are being accepted online at ymcaofoakville.org until October 21. Selected recipients will receive a YMCA Peace Medal, along with $500 for their charitable work, at the YMCA Community Breakfast for Peace on Nov 23. Tickets for the event, with keynote speaker and First Nations advocate, Gabrielle Scrimshaw, are also now on sale.
