As citizens of Ontario and representatives of the grassroots organization Save Glen Abbey in Oakville, we are writing to express our support for the quick passage of Bill 139. Replacing the current Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) with a process that allows the voice of the people, through their elected officials, to be heard while adapting proactive planning, is essential to ensure what is right, just and for the public good be instated. Effective reform would require responsible planning practices and Bill 139 would mean decisions do not merely favour parties with the deepest pockets. It would also allow for alignment with vibrant and effective planning practices currently in place in the rest of the Canada. There is overwhelming support by constituents to replace the OMB and to do this expeditiously. In addition, reforms should be applied to all appeals currently in progress. This is crucial to curtail the surge of appeals initiated by developers that are merely driven by their financially motivated concerns over proposed changes. Please move forward quickly and decisively so we can collaboratively as citizens and municipalities assist in deciding how and where to grow our communities. We are committed to saving Glen Abbey, a historical and cultural part of our town, our province and Canada' s heritage. We believe saving Glen Abbey is what is right, just and for the public good.
