The Blades, who scored all their goals on the power play, showed great poise as they handled the puck well at both ends of the ice, carrying the momentum for the major ity of the game. "We played well defensively," said Blades' coach John McDonald. "Our goalie (Matt Collaton) played well, making some good saves." The Blades implemented a great penalty killing unit, not allowing the Chargers the opportunity to get the tying, or even winning goal. McDonald felt this was a "key weekend" for his club, which played Mississauga again on Sunday. On Friday, an early goal by the Chargers gave them a quick 1-0 lead. However, late in the first period, the Blades capitalized on a five on three powerplay. A nice passing play around the perimeter of the Chargers' zone finished with a one-timer by Jason Sajko. Rob Kapuscinski scored 25 seconds later on a five on four advantage, giving the Blades a 2-1 lead. Kapuscinski got the puck after a successful face-off and one-timed it into the net. The Chargers scored early in the second period, tying the game up at 2-2. No storybook ending for Crusaders The Oakville Crusaders rugby club accomplished a rare feat by having each of its top three teams, along with its midget youth team, reach their respective provincial playoff championship games this past weekend at Fletcher's Field in Markham. Unfortunately, the story book season couldn't quite extend to the ending as all four teams did go down to defeat. Nevertheless, it was quite an accomplishment. Here's a recap: MIDGET The midget rugby program started the day off by reach ing the bowl final of the under-16 tournament. Losing a close game to London St. George, the midgets, were able to capture the fair play and sportsmanship trophy.
