· 20 Friday, October 29, 1999 1 TH E O A K V IL L E BEAVER NEWS A N D INFORMATION FROM OAKVILLE-TRAFALGAR MEMORIAL HOSPITAL Preparing for the Year 2000 We've all heard a lot about the Year 2000 computer challenge - and the potential effects it may have on computers and other devices that rely on computers to run properly. Be assured that Y2K Planning is a top priority at the Milton District Hospital and Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital sites of Halton Healthcare Services. We are confident that the Year 2000 bug will not affect our systems. However, some of our systems depend on others and therefore it is not possible to guarantee that all Y2K issues will be fully resolved. To prepare for this possibility, we have put together a comprehensive back-up plan that will allow us to continue providing healthcare services at both of our Hospital sites to meet the needs of patients on January 1st, 2000 and beyond. A few things we've done so far: * Inventoried our systems, equipment and devices at both hospital sites to verify their Y2K readiness * Developed and tested back-up plans that will allow us to continue to provide safe, essential care to patients in light of an emergency * Identified key staff to be on-site on December 31, 1999 and January 1, 2000 to allow for immediate response to any incident that could impact patient care.
