Halton Board of Education Director Dusty Papke confirmed Thursday that the 11-year old boy underwent emer gency surgery at Sick Children's Hospital in Toronto, but as of press time Papke did not know his exact condition. According to Halton Regional Police Sgt. Frank Phillips, emergency personnel were summoned to the Hixon Road school around 11 a.m. after a 911 call was received about a student being injured. Phillips explained that the investiga tion to date determined that the youth lost his footing and fell during the supervised football game being held during gym class in the school yard. Papke said the boy landed on the grass field and injured his head. He then stood up, but collapsed again. The youth - whose name has not been released - was driven by ambu lance to Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital then airlifted to Sick Children's Hospital where surgery was performed. Papke said the Halton Board of Education's Tragic Events Response Team is only on standby at this time, but can be called in to Eastview if needed.
