` 36 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, October 29, 1999 - Cross country results for Oakville schools B o u n d f o r th e S u p e r B o w l (C o ntinued from p a g e 35 ) Some local H alton Invictas football players stand a good chance of attending this year's Super Bowl in Atlanta, and it w on't be as spectators. They'll be playing. Not in the big game, but in a special youth tournament being run by the NFL and pitting four countries -- the U.S., Canada, Europe and Mexico. The teams will play their opening game on Wednesday, January 26. And on Saturday, January 29th, the consolation and championship finals will take place. The actual Super Bowl will take place on Sunday, January 30th. Canada will be represented by an all star team from the provinces of Quebec and Ontario. Ontario held a grueling tryout camp this past weekend in Brantford with all day workouts on both Saturday and Sunday. It started out with close to 90 players, including a sizeable Oakville contingent that included Brian Pozzobon, Peter Majowski, Kwame Aidoo, Mike Post, Ajay Gautam, Mike Davidson, Jason Kalinowski and M arco Pereira. The names of 25 players from this tryout camp are expected to be announced by this Friday at ,,noon and they will be invited to a special Ontario/Quebec training camp which will be held Dec. 2729th at an indoor facility to be determined. The final roster of 36 players (with no more than 20 players from one province) will be selected following this training camp. Ian Breck from Bishop's University is coaching the Canadian squad. While the NFL is covering a lot of the cost such as bil leting and meals, the cost to each Canadian player, at this point, is $700. Organizers will be trying to whittle this down through sponsorship. Anyone interested in sponsoring a local kid can phone Jack Crawford, the Invictas Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) governor, at 639-5992. Thomas Aquinas in second and third places, respectively. The overall title, however, is only for boasting rights. Berths to OFSAA are earned on a divisional basis (midget, junior and senior) for both boys and girls. The top two teams in each of the above divisions qualify for the provincial OFSAA championships as well as the top three individuals (not on the winning teams).
