JONES -131 MISSISSAUGA . - he company that built its reputa tion on having the loneliest repairmen in town, now wants to be equally well known for something else-- innovation. To that end, The Maytag Store , the first of its kind anywhere in North America, has just opened its doors in Oakville. Located on Hampshire Gate (off Hwy 5), the spacious, 3,500 sq. ft. store is designed to showcase the largest selection of Maytag, Jenn-Air, Hoover and Magic Chef products in Canada. It will also place a strong emphasis on the com pany's new theme-- "Bringing Innovation Home "-- by dis playing its newest, most innovative home appliances in a very hands-on way. "We'll be the first in Canada to dis play these new products to the public," says Tony Almeida, co-owner of the store along with partner Leo Andrade. Almeida points to Maytag's new Gemini range which features a dual oven, allowing food to be cooked at two different temperatures, while tak ing up the same amount of space as a traditional range. "We're trying to be innovative in the way we display the products as well," notes Almeida. "We have a lot of live products on display so the public can see how they work with live demon strations." Four dishwashers are hooked up, for instance, to give customers a true indi cation o f the varying noise levels offered. The entrance to the store is high lighted by a fabulous showcase kitchen where celebrity guest chefs will be brought in to demonstrate their culinary skills on state of the art appliances. Almeida points out that they have tried to utlilize the floor space in a way that allows them to display the largest selection possible. Built-in appliances, for instance, are a large part of the marketplace, he says, and the store wants customers to be able to see what's available, including optional features. "We don't want our customers to have to look at a picture in a cata logue," he adds. "A lot of stores will say we can get this or that, but we want to show them the difference on the floor so they can make their selection." By constructing individual "vignettes" throughout the store, cus Chambers of commerce open house Thursday In .celebration of Small Business Week, The Region o f Halton and Royal Bank will be co-hosting an Open House -- Wine and Cheese Reception.
