Halton Regional Police says that on Monday (Oct. 30) Burlington detectives arrested a man for allegedly stealing merchandise from various Walmart stores in Burlington, Oakville and Mississauga. Police allege the man shoplifted at one store and returned the stolen merchandise at another where he received gift cards, which were used to purchase pre-paid credit cards. Late Monday afternoon investigators stopped a vehicle driven by a man. A search of the man and his vehicle resulted in the seizure of $2,505 worth of pre-paid MasterCards, pre-paid VISA cards, several other gift cards and clothing. A female passenger also was arrested. Matthew William Ticknor, 33, of Burlington is charged with fraud under $5,000 (four counts) and one count of possession of property obtained by crime. He was held for a bail hearing. Tara Lee Marchesin, 45, of Oakville is charged with possession of property obtained by crime. She was released on a promise to appear in Milton court Nov 29. Police say the matter is still under investigation.
