2 9 | Thursday November 9, 2017 | OAKVILLE BEA- Registration open for Polar Bear Dip Registration is now open for the Courage Polar Bear Dip on Jan. 1, 2018, from 12:30 to 3 p.m. at Coronation Park in Oakville. The dip takes place at 2 p.m. This year m arks the 33rd an nual plunge into the chilly wa ters of Lake Ontario in Oakville to ring in the New Year and raise funds for clean water projects in Mali, Western Africa, through World Vision Canada. Even if you don't want to take the plunge, people are invited to enjoy the live music, dressed in their craziest costumes to win prizes. Last year's Courage Polar Bear Dip attracted more than 800 dippers and raised nearly $150,000 in addition to online donations in support of World Vision clean water projects. In addition to people tak ing the dip, organizers are also looking for volunteers to help out on event day, as well as donations, prom o tional items, printing, tents and prizes to make the fundraiser a success. W Cause 4 Canines on Nov. 18 Cause 4 Canines is holding its second annual cocktail reception and fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Oakville Club in Oakville, to increase awareness and raise money for founda tions working to end the dog meat trade. The event runs from 7:30 - 10:30 p.m. The ticket price is $65 and includes a free drink, beer tasting and hors' d'oeuvres. There is a live a silent auction with items and experiences available that have been donated from Oakville and Burlington. All profits will be donated to charity. Cause 4 Canines is a charity event that was formed in 2016. Last year organizers raised more than $16,000 and with community sup port received this year, they are hoping to top the $20,000 mark. There will be no graphic material shown at the event. There will be a donation bin at the event for any new or used dog items including: beds, leads, collars, toys, bowls and other items. Ev erything collected will be donated to shelters and foundations that are rescuing and rehabilitating dogs from the dog meat trade.
