Halton MPs take Hope in High Heels to the Hill On Tuesday, Nov. 7 Halton Members of Parliament Pam Damoff (Oakville North-Burlington), John Oliver (Oakville) and Karina Gould (Burlington) hosted an all-party Hope in High Heels walk on Parliament Hill in Ottawa to support efforts to end violence against women. Hope in High Heels is an annual walk organized by the Halton Women's Place where men and boys show their support in ending violence against women by collecting pledges and slipping on a pair of pink high heels to walk in solidarity in the fight against gender-based violence. Halton Women's Place has organized Hope in High Heels in Halton for the past eight years to help raise funds for their women's shelter in the Halton region and to raise awareness of this ongoing issue. "Halton Women's Place is excited to be taking part in our second annual Hope in High Heels on Parliament Hill - Ottawa," said Diane Beaulieu, executive director, Halton Women's Place. "We are proud of our ongoing partnership with local Members of Parliament, Members of Provincial Parliament, and local government societal issue. This event reminds us we all have a role to play in ensuring all Canadians have a right to a life free of violence." "All women have the right to live free from violence and abuse," said Damoff. "As vice chair of the Standing Committee on the Status of Women, I know acts of gender-based violence can prevent young women and girls from leading fulfilling lives as equal members in Canadian society. "We must all work together to affect systemic change in order to end sexual violence and it is absolutely necessary to engage men and boys in addressing this violence. By inviting men to literally walk in a woman's shoes, the Hope in High Heels movement brings them into the conversation and enables men to be a vital part of the solution." "It is important for men to understand their part in perpetuating violence against women in our country," said Oliver. -- submitted by Halton MPs Pam Damoff (Oakville North-Burlington), John Oliver (Oakville) and Karina Gould (Burlington) 15 | Friday November 10, 2017 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insidehalton.com On Tuesday, Nov. 7, Halton MPs -- Pam Damoff (Oakville North-Burlington), John Oliver (Oakville), and Karina Gould (Burlington), hosted an all-party Hope in High Heels walk on Parliament Hill in Ottawa to support efforts to end violence against women. | submitted photo as we work together to end violence against women, `because a life without violence is the only life to live.'
