Kim Phuc, who was pictured as a girl fleeing a napalm attack during the Vietnam War, in Nick Ut's Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph, will be speaking in Oakville Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the Oakville Convention Centre. Registration begins at 6 p.m. with the presentation beginning at 6:30 p.m. Following the presentation, Phuc will be available to sign copies of her book Fire Road. Fire Road is the story behind the photo, chronicling Phuc's childhood in a prosperous Vietnamese home. It also details the effects of the painful burns across her body, and her personal trials as she travelled from Vietnam to Cuba and then to Canada. Phuc now travels the world, recounting how her life was altered by both war and the click of a camera. Phuc is a Canadian citizen and now lives in Ajax, Ont. with her husband and two children. She is receiving laser treatment at a hospital in Miami, Fla. to reduce the scarring on her left arm and back. The treatment is being provided free-of-charge. In 1997, she established the Kim Phuc Foundation in the United States, with the aim of providing medical and psychological assistance to child victims of war. Phuc's presentation is part of a speakers' series presented by T.E.
