The magazine describes itself as the premier publication on occupational health and safety in Canada and annually holds Canada' s Safest Employers Awards to recognize companies from all across Canada with outstanding accomplishments in promoting the health and safety of their workers. Oakville Hydro received a 2017 Silver Award in the Utilities and Electrical category for their Stayin'Alive program. "Safety is our top priority and this award honours the dedication each employee exhibits every day to make that priority a reality" said Rob Lister, Oakville Hydro president and CEO. Stayin'Alive is an employee-focused program that promotes and builds a culture of safety in the workplace, at home and in the community. Oakville Hydro staff has previously stated that what sets the program apart is the constantly reinforced safety message, communication tactics and high level of employee engagement. NOTICE OF SUBMISSION - DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION REPORT Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) and Highway 403 Structures and Associated Improvements from Trafalgar Road to East of Winston Churchill Boulevard - Contract #2 (G.W.P. 2125-10-00) THE PROJECT The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has retained Stantec Consulting Limited to complete the Detail Design to rehabilitate or replace existing bridges and pavement on the QEW near the QEW/Highway 403/Ford Drive interchange. Ultimate platform widening will be incorporated, where feasible (including provision for High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes), with the intent that the work is complete until future widening is required. Contract 1 improvements are now complete. Contract 2 is planned for construction between 2018 and 2021 and involves the following components: · The replacement of four bridges on the QEW and the rehabilitation of six bridges within the vicinity of the QEW/Highway 403/Ford Drive interchange; · Grading for the QEW eastbound median cross-over and all associated pavement, drainage, illumination, tall wall barrier, Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS), retaining walls, for QEW eastbound and westbound median; · Upper Middle Road pavement rehabilitation of the existing lanes within the MTO Controlled Access Highway; · QEW eastbound and westbound mainline pavement rehabilitation of existing lanes from east of Trafalgar Road to east of Winston Churchill Boulevard; · Rehabilitation of QEW ramps over Joshua's Creek and resurfacing of QEW ramps at Trafalgar Road, Royal Windsor Drive, Ford Drive W-N/S ramp, N/S-E ramp, and N-W ramp only, and Winston Churchill Boulevard; · High Mast Lighting to allow for continuous/full illumination system on the QEW from east of Trafalgar Road to west of Erin Mills Parkway; and · Traffic management measures to facilitate the rehabilitation and replacement of the structures and to maintain traffic flow in the area including nightly lane closures and median crossovers on QEW; extended weekend closures at various ramp and structure locations; and, full closures of Ford Drive for bridge demolition work. THE PROCESS The study was carried out in accordance with the approved environmental planning process for Group `B' undertakings under the MTO's Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) for Provincial Transportation Facilities (2000) , with the opportunity for public input throughout including a Public Information Centre held in June 2015. This project was approved following the preparation and filing of a Transportation Environmental Study Report (TESR) in 2013. A Design and Construction Report (DCR) for Contract 2 has been prepared to document the final design, construction staging, traffic management, and the environmental mitigation measures developed to address environmental concerns.
