Friday, October 8, 1999 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER Student spotted suspect fromposters (Continued from page 1) The first occurred around 7 p.m. M onday when a 19-year old Oakville woman was walking on a pathway through a treed area. She was approached by a male who pointed a gun at her and ordered her to dis robe. She refused and strug gled with the male. After she started screaming, the suspect fled. After she ran from the area the woman contacted police who searched the vicinity along with Sheridan security personnel, but the assailant had vanished. On Tuesday around 7:30 p.m., another 19-year old female was walking in the same area when she was approached by a male who produced a handgun - which turned out to be a pellet gun - and demanded that she undress. The woman com plied and was fondled. The suspect then stole an undis closed amount of cash from his victim and fled. The victim ran and called police. The area was sealed off as uniform offi cers, members of the tacti cal rescue unit and a police services dog searched the vicinity but, again, the attacker could not be found. A ccording to Halton Regional Police Sgt. Frank Phillips, Police investiga tors worked closely with Sheridan College and both Halton school boards to ensure public safety. Warning posters containing details of the crime and a description of the suspect were "plastered" up around the college, said Phillips. The posters warned all female students to not walk the paths around the college alone at any time. They sug gested walking with a friend or taking an alternate route. The observant student recognized the suspect around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. The posters also strongly urged students to take advantage of the escort ser vice provided by the college so that no one need walk alone. Although the suspect in this case has been appre hended, Phillips said women should always exer cise caution. The youth, who cannot be named under the Young Offenders Act, is charged with two counts of sexual assault with a weapon; two counts of weapons danger ous (gun); two counts of weapons dangerous (knife); two counts of use of an imi tation firearm in the com mission of an offense; two counts of pointing a firearm; two counts of breach of probation; one count of robbery.
