Showcase House '99, located at 2575 Dundas St. W., M ississauga, recently opened to the public and will remain open for viewing until Nov. 12th. Showcase House '99 design highlights include a living/dining-room in the Mission Style (circa 1900), which combines traditional and sleek design elements. The kitchen was inspired by the streamlined curves and chrome and laminate finishings of the 1950s, and features authentic period hardware. The family/media room harkens back to the media room of the 1930s, which was a space in the homes of affluent families designated for the home theatre and entertainment area. Other highlights include an art deco play room, a biomorphic meditation room, and a laun dry room that traces the evolution over the cen tury of this mundane household chore. The house is closed Mondays and Tuesdays but is open Wednesdays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thurs days and Fridays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. A dm ission is $2, with proceeds going to the Oakville Parent/Child Centre, a community service that sup ports families and caregivers. Mary Jane Carroll, co-ordinator of Sheridan's Interior Design. Program, describes Showcase House '99 as "truly a labour of love for the students who put in long and exhausting hours to develop and im plem ent their designs." Sheridan's Interior Design program is a three-year diploma program which encom passes concept developm ent, technical and project management, business practice, communication and computer skills. Fifteen students from the program were actively involved in conceptual izing and implementing the Showcase House '99 interior design.
