The art auction begins with a cocktail recep tion and viewing of the art at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14th at Le Dome bangquet hall. Appraised at values ranging from $250 to $1,000, the pieces are quality limited edition reproductions of works by well-known artists such as Chagall, Dali, Miro, Erte and Tarkay. Among the Canadian artists represented at the auction will be local artist, Alan Kingsland. A limited edition reproduction of Kingsland's Fishing Boats is one of the works on which auc tioneer Mayor Ann Mulvale will accept bids. He had a unique opportunity to continue his studies while serving as a soldier during the war. "They didn't really know what to do with me," he confides, "so they gave me an army vehicle to drive to Oxford University each day to attend classes in the arts programme. After class I was assigned to the army's creative duties. I designed the Christmas card one year, decorated halls for parties and painted badges onto army vehicles." Kingsland came to Canada in 1957 and first set tled in Toronto. He has resided in Oakville for 27 years and still paints approximately 35 works each year. Kingsland paints landscapes and enjoys painting golf courses, which he says are another type of landscape, while admitting he is an avid golfer. f t ?
