After less than two minutes of play, Ryan Gow slammed a St. Catharines defenceman into the boards behind the net, breaking the latch on the ice door. After 25 minutes of various attempts by arena staff, these industri ous civil servants managed to jerry-rig the door so it was solid (though it could no longer be opened at all). This unfortunate occurrence put both teams off a bit and it wasn't until late in the first that Oakville finally opened the scoring on a shot by Bryan Mills from Chris Riddell and Jeff Brown. The rest of the Oakville scoring came spread through the second period with Geoff Curtis picking up two goals and an assist, Mike Enns bag ging two, and Riddell with a single. Brown marked three more assists and Riddell, Curtis and Don Hartt had the remaining assists. The third period saw Oakville with many chances but unable to beat the St. Catharines net minder. Dane Gilbert earned the shut out for Oakville. With this win, the Oakville team is playing .500 hockey, a team goal over the past few years. If you enjoy good hockey, come out tonight, Oct. 6th, at 8 p.m., to Oakville Arena and catch the midgets in action against Stoney Creek or come next Wednesday and see them face off against Welland. Tough loss The Oakville Rangers triple-A novice rep hockey team, sponsored by Caz's Fish and Chips, overcame three two-goal deficits to take a 5-4 lead in their game against Stoney Creek. Unfortunately, Stoney Creek tied the game up at 5-5 with 10 seconds left in the second period and then added five more unanswered goals in the third period for the 10-5 win. Oakville goals were scored by Brian Urquhart (2), David Provost, Spencer Metcalfe and Patrick Chiasson. Assists went to Scott Tanski (2), Steven Guzzo (2), < Aaron Kachowski, Mitchell Fillman, Mark Borcsok, Anthony Scalia f and Patrick Marsh. ] Close win The Oakville Rangers minor atom A rep team edged visiting Dundas 4-3 on Oct. 3. It was a tough battle with goalie Kristopher McCoubrey secur ing the win in the third period with some spectacular saves. He faced 28 shots. Oakville held leads of 2-0 and 3- 1 before Dundas tied it up. But Oakville's Tyson Theaker scored the winner at 6:20 of the third period. Matt Downer had a pair of goals and Jamie McKeown added a single. Assists went to Theaker (2), Matt Grigg, Brett Chandler and Spencer Jenkin. O a k v i l l e .
